    Chronic constipation and fecal incontinence are significant problems in pediatric populations, with associated stigma, bullying, and issues with self-esteem. In children, fecal incontinence is associated with constipation in more than 90% of cases. CCFI affects 0.7 - 29.6% of children and adolescents under the age of 18, and accounts for 3% of pediatrician visits in the US. Etiology for CCFI is broadly classified as organic or functional. Examples of organic causes for CCFI include spina bifida, anorectal malformations and Hirschprung Disease.
