Lymphedema surgery has made tremendous advances and is quickly becoming the standard of care for patients suffering from lymphedema.1-2 A lymphovenous anastomosis creates a shunt allowing lymphatic fluid to drain into the systemic circulation. Numerous studies have demonstrated successful outcomes using this approach, and in experienced, skilled hands, is reproducible, predictable, and effective in improving patients' lymphedema but remains technically challenging and is dependent on specialized equipment.
