• HbA1c-based screening may uncover undiagnosed type 2 diabetes among adults

    About 1% of adults aged 40 to 70 years in the UK Biobank with no diabetes diagnosis at enrollment had undiagnosed type 2 diabetes as indicated by HbA1c, according to study data.
    In findings from a study published in Diabetologia, more than 87% of adults aged 40 to 70 years with undiagnosed diabetes at the time they entered the UK Biobank were diagnosed with diabetes after a median of 2.2 years of follow-up. Researchers said providers may be able to diagnose diabetes cases faster with the use of HbA1c-based screening.
