From 2000 to 2017, investigators at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, analyzed 424 patients treated with 455 high-dose antibiotic-loaded bone cement spacers after resection of a periprosthetic joint infection following primary total knee arthroplasty. According to the study, 15% of patients had preexisting chronic kidney disease .
