GLP-1 receptor agonists lower risks for nonfatal, total stroke in type 2 diabetes

Researchers found evidence that GLP-1 receptor agonists, but not SGLT2 inhibitors or DPP-IV inhibitors, may help prevent stroke for individuals with type 2 diabetes, according to results of a meta-analysis.

From 2000 to 2019, the prevalence of type 2 diabetes quadrupled, increasing the overall prevalence of pregestational diabetes. The rise in pregestational diabetes increased the odds of adverse pregnancy outcomes, researchers reported.
“Prior population-level analyses using administrative data found that pregestational diabetes increased approximately 50% from 1993 to 2009, consistent with the increase in diabetes prevalence among all U.S. adults in the same time period,” Lindsey P.
