    Monthly infusions of cytomegalovirus hyperimmune globulin for women with primary cytomegalovirus, or CMV, infection during early pregnancy did not lower the incidence of congenital CMV infection or perinatal death in a trial that was stopped for futility.
    “These findings contradict the conclusions of observational studies that suggested significant improvement in outcomes with the administration of CMV hyperimmune globulin,” Brenna L. Hughes, MD, MSc, a maternal-fetal medicine specialist at the Duke Birthing Center, and colleagues wrote in The New England Journal of Medicine.
