  • There's Only Weak Evidence For Vitamin-D As a COVID-19 Preventative-But Scientists Are Trying to Learn More

1 month ago - By Time

To protect himself from COVID-19, Dr. Anthony Fauci has long said he's skipping hugs and handshakes, wearing a mask, and staying off of planes. Last week, he acknowledged adding another step to protect his health: taking supplements of vitamin-D.
“If you are deficient in Vitamin-D, that does have an impact on your susceptibility to infection,” Fauci, head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said in an interview posted on Instagram last week. “So I would not mind recommending-and I do it myself-taking vitamin-D supplements.”

  • Efforts to prevent COVID-19 led to global decline in flu

1 month ago - By Healio

Interventions to prevent SARS-CoV-2 transmission have led to a global decline in influenza during the COVID-19 pandemic, researchers reported in MMWR.
In addition to causing a significant drop in the percentage of respiratory specimens that tested positive for influenza in the early days of the pandemic in the United States, measures such as mask wearing, social distancing, school closures and telework have kept positive tests at “historically low interseasonal levels,” the researchers said. The Southern Hemisphere has experienced a similar effect.
    If the measures continue through
