    Surgical gastrostomy is the third most common non-cardiac inpatient surgical procedure performed in children in the United States. Gastrostomy-buttons are commonly placed to help children gain weight, correct nutritional deficiencies, provide hydration and/or medications, and improve overall quality of life. Laparoscopic-assisted g-button placement is the preferred procedure in infants and children because of low profile device designs and an abundance of clinical data supporting the safety and beneficial role of enteral nutrition in disease management.
